Was up at 0235, and my started my first pot of coffee somewhere around 3. I'm at Doran beach since yesterday morning, and most of this morning I've been sitting on Blakeman bench, the end farther from the jetty. Looking over the spit and across the bay, there's a bright string of lights which is probably The Tides wharf, and using the finger method for angular distance, about 12 to 13 degrees to the right of that, and around 5 degrees above the horizon, I was watching a fairly constant stream of lights drop. I was thinking a mountain pass, except there aren't any mountains that high in that direction. Airport? The map shows nothing in that direction for many miles. Chico and Redding don't likely have a lot of air traffic from 0300 to 0500. Spokane? Calgary? Edmonton? Could I even see plane lights from that far off? A mystery for sure.
I've been thinking about decentralized DNS, addressing, and routing all morning so far. Anonymity and addressibility seem to be at odds. At some point, one has to pop his head up and announce himself to the world, or at least his world, using an encoded message to those he trusts, to be locatable, and at that point, his enemies will be able to triangulate. And then, I was thinking, they know exactly where I am now, why haven't they killed me yet? Do they think I'm not that much of a threat? That's insulting. But I guess I'd rather be insulted than dead.
